This is our documentation of creating the service. We are going to cover here “Who We Are”, “The Beginning”, “Blueprint”, “Concept of App”, “Storyboard”, “Product” and “STP”(01/Jun/2020–14/Jun/2020)

Who We Are

We are from Japan. My background is a business and Atsushi is an engineer. Both of us are studying interaction design at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.

The Beginning

We are doing every weekend retro about our class projects and talking random stuff. Especially, we are always talking about how to apply what we learned to business as both of us coming from startups and love to make something happen.

One day, we started to talk about lunch because both of us are struggling with finding a good place for lunch in Costa Rica right now and the same things were happening to us in Japan. However, each person in the community knows good restaurants somehow.

“Why don’t we create lunch map for us and try to scale it?”

That is literally how we started to build our service.

Blueprint

Service name: Cocchi

Vision: Belong to multiple communities and have a new discovery every day

Mission: Help to create and share discoveries in the community

“What future do we want?”

We are currently studying remotely because of COVID-19 and the whole world is shifting to remote work. Then, we’ve realized how comfortable WFH (working from home) is.

“Isn’t it cool to work from anywhere and belong to different communities?”

Fortunately, both of us have spent our lives in different cities and countries so far. Every time we change where we live, it brings us positive impacts such as having new friends, learn from them and new values are fostered.

However, it’s indeed a big step to move to new places for a lot of people because you don’t know anyone there. Therefore, we would like to create a community in different places and connect it to Cocchi so that people will be able to have amazing and rich experiences.

Concept of App

“Co-create our map by sharing your favorite place in the community”

Storyboard

The above storyboard shows how we are expecting Cocchi will be used.

  1. The existing community will use it such as squad
  2. One of the people in the community will find restaurant or some places where he/she wants to visit with friends then check-in (location-sharing) and takes a photo of the place
  3. Post it on Cocchi
  4. The post will be shared with other people in the community
  5. Later days, they go to a posted restaurant all together
  6. Update post with their photo and memory

Product

First user flow concept sketch

User flow would be following steps;

  1. Community channel (i.g. squad, company)
  2. Category channel (i.g. food, shops)
  3. Pinned map and posts (below screenshot is the example)
Quick prototype on Notion

You have a map that will be pinned by the people in the community and see what you can find there with photos and descriptions. In this example, you can see the post on Venezuelan cuisine.

STP

Segmentation

Geographic: Tokyo (major city)

Demographic: Female fresh-year university students in Tokyo from outside of Tokyo

Psychographic: Going to a cafe outside of the university for lunch and loves to visit cafes with friends on the weekend

Target

18 years old female university student who lives in Tokyo. Came from outside of Tokyo. Doing the part-time job in the Izakaya (Japanese style pub) 3 times a week. Going to a cafe for lunch break instead of using the cafeteria in university.

The fun of the weekend is cafe-hopping with friends. When she finds a nice cafe in the town, she is always sharing it with friends in the chat and other friends in the community as well.

It is nice that chat is very active however there is too much information flowing on the chat so that it’s very difficult to manage it and find information later when they want to visit already shared places.

Positioning

There are 3 parameters on the above graph;

  1. Closed(↔open) community
  2. Stock (↔flow) type app
  3. Text (↔non-text) based app

Cocchi is a closed community for squad and information on the app will be stocked that people in the community can easily find it. The main interaction would be map and photo which means that the app is based more on non-text.

Next Step

So far we explained our short-term service to the existing community. As we mentioned earlier, we would like to create a community in different places and connect it to Cocchi.

Below initial super rough sketch is showing how people can move around the community based on the map of Cocchi. We will explain it more later in the coming posts.

See you next weekend! We will keep posting our progress weekly basis. Muchas Gracias for reading so far our content. Feel free to reach out to us via social media and give us any of your thought and feedback.
