Interview (art lover)

We interviewed 7 art lovers to understand their problems.

Persona

Karen is a sociable 20s designer. She goes to a temporary exhibition at a museum every month, but now she works remotely and doesn’t go out. The walls of her room are empty, and she would like to buy a painting but has not done so because it is too expensive. She would like to support young artists if possible.

Problem

  1. No place to go out to see new paintings because museum exhibits never change and I get bored
  2. Want to talk about art, but don’t have any friends whose tastes match

Art and Culture

I had a chance to study in France for a year when I was at a university and traveled around Europe for 3 months. The one fascinated thing was visiting different museums in every country to feel and understand the culture there.

Nike Art Gallery

Two years ago, I went to Nigeria for a month and met a wonderful lady called Mama Nike. She was very nice to me and I spent really nice time with local artists.

Especially, when I saw this piece I was really touched because there was a lot of garbage on the street during staying there. Nike art gallery is also inviting kids from school and try to tell them how important art is to cherish culture.

I moved to Costa Rica to study in design school for a year and I chose artist’s Airbnb to stay because I really wanted to understand more about artists. In fact, it was a very nice experience to talk about art and be surrounded by it for a year.

I was so surprised that so many artworks just sitting years and years in the artist’s home. I was curious about art students because they usually don’t have enough space to keep it in their room. I interviewed them and the more shocking fact was turned out that they often throw away their artworks because no space to keep them and difficult to sell them.

Artists create a culture through artworks but often it’s not really exposed and the worst case is that they throw away them which means that they throw away part of the culture.

Home Experience

We all stayed home last year and it’s still happening. A lot of people had access to music, movie, food because all of them were served by companies. We are adapting to stay home thanks to them. However, art is still outside of experience and this shift of staying home is making it more difficult to access art.

We believe that this is very good timing to bring art experience to home and make it accessible for everyone, everywhere. Artaku provides an opportunity to integrate art with everyday life by creating an art gallery experience at home. We provide not just artworks but also the community through Artaku to be able to access other’s home gallery. We believe that we can build a wonderful culture together with everyone.
